This article is not about the top 10 free traffic
tools or the best methods to making more money on the internet. Nor is
it about SEO, boosting your email marketing, or getting more “Likes” on
Facebook. While those strategies are important, without this one
attribute, you will never succeed online.
Any guesses on what it is?
I will give you a hint. You also need this trait to be successful in
all areas of life including marriage, parenting and attaining your
goals. You need it when traveling on vacation and while planning your
household chores. Without it, you would never achieve your goals.
It is FOCUS.
Focus in an essential dynamic, applicable to every area of our lives. But, when it comes to internet marketing, focus will mean the difference between success and failure.
Without focus, you will continue to spin your wheels and never make
any money. This vicious cycle is stressful, and over time it will take
you out if you don’t pull yourself out of it.
Consider this scenario:
You find a way to make money online;
you’ve gathered your resources and you are excited about your new
venture. You get your ducks in a row, create your websites, find your
affiliate products and you are off to the races. Three weeks later, you
feel your excitement wane but you are still motivated to continue. It
can’t be too hard to make money online right? Look how many people are
doing it.
Six weeks pass and not one sale. You started getting some traffic
to your website but you thought you would be further along by now. What
will your family think? You told them you would be rolling in the dough
right about now. You presuppose your methods must be wrong, so you
search for new strategies. You remember seeing an email for a program
that promised $5000 a month working online.
You buy it and get excited again. Off you go thinking this new strategy
is sure to do the trick. Six weeks later you are in the same
predicament. No money; no riches. You go back to your original method to
see if it suddenly exploded while you were away for six weeks, but
nothing. You spend your entire day rummaging through the dozens of
emails promising you internet riches if you follow each guru’s plan.
YouTube marketing, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, SEO, Blogging,
WordPress, podcasts, conversion—there must be something out there that
works—the vicious cycle continues…
The sad story is that this person didn’t realize that all of those
strategies DO work. The strategy is not the problem. The issue is the lack of FOCUS!
Your success will depend on your desire to stay focused
and motivated long after the novelty of starting something new wears
off.
Tip#1 – Stay in Reality
Don’t believe the so-called gurus who will tell you their stories of
making thousands of dollars their first month online. Yes, they may be
making a lot of money now but it took them months and years to get there. They cannot expect a complete newbie with a fraction of the money, knowledge and resources to perform at their level.
Unrealistic expectations will snuff you out even before you really
get going. If you go into your venture knowing the truth about income
expectations, you will have more will to overcome obstacles and stay motivated.
Tip #2 – Don’t Fall for the Next Best Thing
Don’t fall into the trap of thinking another strategy is better than
the one you are working towards right now. Resist the urge to try a new
strategy even if it is a low-priced steal that promises to bring you
instant traffic. I understand at times it may be plausible to change
directions or incorporate additional strategies. But, the complete abandonment of a project before it has time to grow is a waste of your time.
There is a tipping point where frustration hits a high right before you are ready to get to the next level,
and at this point you may want to give up. When stressed, it’s very
easy to jump on the next best thing you see in your email inbox or take
advantage of a shiny new product launch that comes knocking at your
door.
Here is where focus comes in.
Avoid trying to escape your current struggles. If you can manage to
overcome your hurdles and keep going, you will experience the success
you desire.
Some people do not take the time to apply the initial techniques they
learn and give up way too early. Yet, they expect to make a lot of
money. These people will never succeed online and like the person in the
example above, will spin their wheels until they finally give up.
What is the tipping point? I define it as the moment when profits outweigh effort.
When you start an online business you will invest 80% of your time and
resources upfront and only receive about 20% output. Once you reach the
tipping point, you will experience more profit while exerting less
effort. But, it takes time to get there and only the strong and focused
will survive.
Tip #3 – Jack of all Trades; Master of None
Lack of focus can also cause you to take on more than you are capable
of accomplishing. Avoid starting a new strategy until you have
successfully executed others. If you are a one-man show, stay focused on
one or two methods until they start working for you. Once you build profits, you can outsource some of the work and start diversifying.
Tip #4 – Stay in the Game—It Will All be Worth It
I don’t want to scare you away from making money online; my goal is
to help you stay realistic and focused. There is a reason why 90% of
internet marketers never make it past their second and third month. They set unrealistic goals and expect quick riches.
Working for yourself from home or anywhere else in the world is a fulfilling lifestyle
desired by many. Your effort will be worth it and we are here to help
you every step of the way. Making money online, though challenging at
times, is easy in comparison to those who start brick-and-mortar
businesses from scratch and invest thousands of dollars only to wait
three years to see any profit, if any.
Making a solid income online is not a pipe dream. It is a reality for those who desire to roll up their sleeves and do what is necessary to achieve their goals.
Are you ready to get focused? If so, the sky’s the limit…good luck!
